October 16th RC - Motion
10/17/07
Bros.,
At the Regular meeting on October 16th, a Motion in Writing was read which would amend the By-Laws of the Lodge, specifically Article III, pertaining to dues and fees. After the Motion in Writing was read, an amendment or rider was read which would, if accepted by the Lodge, change the amount of proposed dues increase, in the original Motion in Writing.
When the matter comes before the Lodge for a vote, at the next Regular meeting (November 4th), the amendment or rider, will be considered first, If, by a 2/3 majority vote, of the members present, the amendment or rider is accepted, the dollar amount in the Motion in Writing will be amended to $80.00 plus Grand Lodge per-capita dues ($20.00), for a total of $100.00. If the amendment or rider is rejected, by not receiving a 2/3 majority vote, of the members present, the Motion in Writing will be considered as originally read. That dollar amount would be $130.00 plus Grand Lodge per-capita dues ($20.00), for a total of $150.00
An email will be sent out, to inform the members of the action taken by the Lodge as soon as possible. Those without email, will receive this notification of the proposed action and later, the results by mail. Dues notices will go out immediately after a decision is made by the Lodge and will reflect the will of the Lodge.
Below is the transcript of both, the Motion in Writing and the amendment or rider, which were read.
Fraternally,
Fred B. Frye Secretary
Edgewood Lodge No.82

Motion in Writing
Whereas Edgewood Lodge No.82 established a Long Range Planning Committee in 2006 to attend to the longevity and financial health of the Lodge and
Whereas the Edgewood Lodge No. 82 Long Range Planning Committee is responsible for attending to long term issues with respect to long-term financial measures such as budget, inflation, and other future issues such as maintenance of the Lodge and
Whereas it is prudent to periodically review the fees and dues of the Lodge, and
Whereas an increase in initiation fees and an increase in the annual dues of the Lodge is beneficial to the financial health of the Lodge,
Therefore be it resolved, that the By-Laws of the Lodge be amended as follows, and reflect an increase in the initiation fees and annual dues of the Lodge.

Motion to amend proposed Motion that would Amend the By-Laws read on October 16th, 2007, which would change the dues and fees for the Degrees
In as much as the Motion to Amend the By-Laws, which would raise the Dues for membership to 130.00 plus the Grand Lodge Per Capita dues would limit, by rule, consideration of a dues increase to that figure only, the following amendment or rider is offered, for the sole purpose of allowing some flexibility while considering a dues increase for the Lodge.
Article III, Section 1. and Section 2. would remain as read.
Section 3. would be amended as follows:
Section 3. Each member of this Lodge, except those who have purchased Endowed Memberships under Code 395 of the Grand Lodge Bylaws, shall pay the sum of Forty ($40.00) Dollars Eighty ($80.00) as annual dues, plus the Grand Lodge Per Capita dues and any Grand Lodge assessments that may be levied. Said amount will be due on January 1st of each year, payable in advance. The dues of new members shall begin at the time of their raising and of Dual/Plural members at the date on which elected to membership. They shall pay for the remaining portion of the calendar year, divided quarterly. A Petition for Affiliation must be accompanied by the Grand Lodge Per Capita Dues.
Simply put, the total paid for a non-endowed member would be $100.00 as opposed to $150.00 after including the Grand Lodge Per Capita dues.
When the membership is notified of the proposed change to the By-Laws, this amendment or rider will accompany the original Motion to Amend the By-Laws. It would be first in consideration, when brought before the Lodge, at the appropriate time and would require a 2/3 majority vote to amend the original motion.
